"Those who know and care about these things say that green is the color of hope. Hope is a very strong force in life, nothing like the wishful thinking it is often taken for. It is a positive, purposeful energy..." -Denis Cotter, Wild Garlic, Gooseberries, and Me
Positive and purposeful energy is all that goes into Greene Treats whether it comes from the creator or you, the consumer. I hope that all of you are able to experience the purposeful nature and positive expression of Greene Treats soon!

pumpkin spice biscotti
I don't normally post recipes on this blog, but I'd like to share with you an original biscotti recipe for delicious pumpkin spice biscotti with chocolate chunks and pepitas.
You will need:
parchment paper lined baking sheet
an oven preheated to 400 degrees F
Ingredients:
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1/4 cup unrefined sugar or raw brown sugar
2 cups unbleached wheat flour
a pinch of baking soda and sea salt
a good amount of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger.
Method:
Combine all these ingredients in this order, mixing gently, you don't want to overmix the dough. The dough will be somewhat stiff. Right before it is 100% uniform, add chocolate chunks and pepitas.
Coat your hands in flour and pick up all of the dough to transfer it to a strip of parchment paper. Shape it into a long rectangular log. Sprinkle the top with turbinado sugar, cinnamon, and more pepitas.
Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven and with a serraded knife, slice the hardened log into 1 inch strips. Space out cookies and stick back in the oven until browned and crisp, 15-20 minutes more. Let cool and enjoy with hot coffee or ice cold milk!
Makes a baker's dozen: 13 cookies

port townsend traditions.
Before we leave for a weekend trip to Moscow, Idaho, I want to share with you a simple batch of crackers that I shared with fellow farmers, handcrafters, and foragers at Midori Farm's Fermented Goods and Pickle Barter Potluck/Kim-Chi burial. I wanted to provide a tasty baked treat that guests could nibble on in accompaniment of the beautiful assortment of homemade soups and salads comprised of homegrown beets, pork, turnip greens, kale, cabbage, onions, carrots, goat cheese and more. It was a terrific event.
The event will be commemorated at the end of February when each member returns to the farm with a mason jar to collect a portion of the kim-chi that we all helped to prepare, mix, and bury in the ground. I hope that we can make the kim chi burial a Port Townsend tradition!

p.s Bless Connecticut and the rest of the East Coast that is suffering from the unexpected Halloween snow storm. My mother has been without power for 4 days now and she is embracing her inner frontiers-woman by melting snow for wash water and cooking all her meals on her wood stove.

solar energy

early this morning |
Sunny skies illuminate shining faces here in the Pacific Northwest. Each light filled day seems to be our last as October winds towards Halloween. Spooky mushrooms, blood red rosehips and rotting apples clue us in on the long, gray months ahead. For now, let's play outside til our noses are nipped by both sun and winds, working up an appetite for sweetly spiced handcrafted treats. A Greene Treat is the perfect companion to a steamy cup of espresso or tea. But hey, don't just take my word for it, try it out for yourself!!

Earthly Spiced Treats
It's raining. It's kinda nippy out there too. Here, have a slice of apple crumble, I picked these apples this morning.
Mmm... that's pretty good isn't it? Not in the mood for sweet, tart and cinnamon-y? How about mellowing out with some Maple Pecan Pie bar or some Pumpkin Pie bar? Oh? You'd like a dozen of each? Splendid! Find out more by visiting the Earthly Spiced Treats tab and place your order today!

cranberries
aren't just for turkey.
they aren't just for cranberry mostarda...
and they aren't just for flushing away toxins in the body.
they are pretty terrific though, aren't they?
